Please join YPF for our October happy hour to enjoy some drinks while networking with colleagues.  The happy hour will be hosted at Black Finn in Midtown beginning at 6pm.  The venue offers happy hour from 4-7pm, so feel free to arrive early if your schedule permits.
Specials: $3 domestic drafts, house wines, and well drinks; $4 calls and import drafts; $6 appetizers and classic burgers.
Parking: Metered street parking is available for free beginning at 6pm and parking for a fee is available in the garage accessible from Smith St.

We invite you to join us for Breaking Through, an event recognizing the achievements of Genesys Works, Houston’s new class of young professionals.  Genesys Works is a non-profit organization that trains economically disadvantaged high school students.  This event is an opportunity for members of YPF to meet the students, companies and schools that comprise the program.  During the month of October, YPF members contributed to Genesys Works by reviewing over 50 essays written by students in the program.  Keynote speaker: Mike McDonnell, Chairman & CEO of TPC Group.

RutherfordMr. Rutherford joined Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. in 2010 as the Executive Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning. He has 30 years of energy and investment banking experience.

Prior to PAA, John served as Managing Director and Head of North American Energy at Lazard, Freres & Co. He also worked at Simmons & Company International for 10 years, where he served as Managing Director and Partner and played a leadership role in building its financial advisory businesses in the mid-stream, downstream, and exploration & production sectors.

During his career, John has developed substantial experience advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and other strategic actions, including many transactions in which he represented PAA. Since joining Plains, John has continued to advance their business development and strategic planning efforts.

Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. is a publicly traded master limited partnership engaged in the transportation, storage, terminaling and marketing of crude oil and refined products, as well as in the processing, transportation, fractionation, storage and marketing of natural gas liquids. Through its general partner interest and majority equity ownership position in PNG, PAA owns and operates natural gas storage facilities. PAA is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

Andrew Linbeck is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Salient Partners, L.P., a Houston based asset management firm with over $19 billion of capital under management, focusing on a broad spectrum of traditional and alternative investments. With expertise in Business Development, Mr. Linbeck provides a wide range of investment experience and service related solutions to Salient’s major relationships. Mr. Linbeck serves on the Salient Board of Directors as well as many of the Investment Committees for the firm and suite of unique fund offerings.

Before forming Salient Partners, L.P., Mr. Linbeck was a Partner and Executive Officer of The Redstone Companies, L.P., a Houston-based investment ­firm. Prior to that, he served as Senior-Vice President in the Private Wealth Management Group at PaineWebber, Inc. Mr. Linbeck began his career in the financial services industry with Kidder Peabody in 1987. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and later graduated from the Executive Management Program at the Jones School of Business at Rice University.

Stephen McDaniel – 2014 Speaker Series

Please join us in welcoming Stephen McDaniel as our third speaker series of 2014 at the Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University on Thursday, October 9th. Cocktail and hors d’oeuvres service, courtesy of the Jones School, and sign-in will begin at 6:30pm.

Stephen McDaniel currently serves on the board of directors of Midstates Petroleum Company (NYSE:MPO) and Ultra Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:UPL), both NYSE listed exploration and production companies and is an active private investor.  Mr. McDaniel founded Midstates Petroleum and previously served as its Chairman and CEO.  Mr. McDaniel built Midstates from a start-up company over a period of approximately 10 years before stepping down from the CEO role in anticipation of the company’s initial public offering, which was completed in April of 2012.  Additionally, Mr. McDaniel is a founding investor in and serves as an advisor to Encino Energy, a private Houston based exploration and production company.

Prior to his time with Midstates, Mr. McDaniel spent almost 10 years in the financial services/investment banking industry where he developed techniques for integrating fundamental engineering analyses into the financing and M&A activities of numerous public and private, US and international, energy companies ranging in size from ‘start-ups’ to the ‘super-majors’.  He spent the majority of his investment banking career with Merrill Lynch and left this career as a Managing Director in the global energy and power group in 2004 to dedicate his time to building Midstates Petroleum Company.

Mr. McDaniel began his career with Conoco (now ConocoPhillips) where he spent 13 years in various engineering, operations, and engineering management roles.  His assignments included onshore, offshore, domestic, and international operations.  He developed a novel process for selectively shutting off water production in oil wells and was awarded US Patent #4972906 for this work.  In the latter part of his Conoco career, Mr. McDaniel moved into a corporate business development role.  His position was Vice President of Business Development for Conoco Overseas Oil Company when he left Conoco to join the financial services industry. Mr. McDaniel has a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering and is also actively involved on the executive board of Big Brothers, Big Sisters Lone Star.
